Betsy DeVos, the outspoken critic of the Department of Education and Common Core, has been confirmed by the Senate by a 51-50 vote.  It is worth noting that two republicans, Susan Collins of Main and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska both voted against DeVos, so we know where they stand (on the other side of the aisle).  Also, none of the democrats voted for her, which promises, we hope, to be a political liability to some of those Democrats up for re-election in states that President Trump carried.  Finally, an historic first occurred as it was Pence who put the vote over the top, casting the tie-breaking vote as Vice President.
